Newcastle Away Kit: You Cannot be Shearious

Posted: June 23rd, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

Perhaps one of the most exciting parts of the footballing calendar is the release of your club’s new home and away kit for the upcoming season. So imagine the disappointment of Newcastle United FC fans when they saw their new away kit. Two of the most disgusting colours mixed together and sold for for the eye popping price of £50. I know Newcastle are now in the Championship but there is no need for them to make cutbacks on the kit designers.

On a more serious note a football club’s kit is a key marketing element. If a club creates a unique design which appeals then kit sales can soar.

There is a current trend where retro football shirts are big business.

LTA and Queen’s Hit Winners With Ticket Giveaway

Posted: June 23rd, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , , | No Comments »

A few weeks ago I had the luxury of getting free tickets to the AGEON Championships at Queen’s tennis club.  How did I get them free you ask? Well the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and Queen’s provide tickets to local residents near the club. The tickets were given away was a fantastic gesture to apologise for any inconvenience (noise, traffic, etc) caused while the tournament was running. Baron’s Court tube was busier than usual but other than the occasional cheer there was little disruption for me personally.

The free tickets were only valid from Monday-Friday and after 5.30pm but I’m not complaining. It was an amazing opportunity to see some top class tennis and schemes like this can really encourage people to take up the sport. Wimbledon fever will grip the country for the next two weeks and people will be playing tennis up and down the country. But the true test is whether the LTA can market the game to motivate players to continue playing all year round and not just for two weeks of the year during the summer.

Credit must go to the LTA for thinking about the local residents and who knows as a result of providing free tickets to residents they may have inspired the next Roger Federer or Venus Williams to take up the game.
